Bangkok to Pattaya

Monday 15th Feb 2016.

Getting picked up by someone from Tann’s Taxi Service at 10am to drive us to Pattaya, so it’s a leisurely breakfast, quick pack and down to the foyer to check out. It’s 9.45 and our driver is already there, so far, so good. Our bags are loaded and off we go, into the madness of Bangkok traffic. 2 hours was the estimated time to Pattaya and today it took nearly 2 1/2 , hopefully traffic won’t be so bad on Sunday when we have to go back to Bangkok for our next flight. It’s a fairly boring drive, some freeway driving and some spots of heavy traffic. Our driver is very good and get’s us safely to Pattaya and to our home for the next 6 nights, the Bayview. Now being an old Woy Woy girl, the name does nothing for me, being the name of the pub opposite the railway line. Bit rough when I was a kid, but nicer these days.

We didn’t expect our room to be ready, we knew check in is 2pm but the staff were still very apologetic. By the time we’d used the loo, the lovely lady had found us a room, so up we went. Nice room, but a standard one as hotel rooms go. Bandara has spoilt us I think. We do have a very nice view over the bay, as one might expect from the name. And there’s a very comfy daybed by the window that I think might get lounged on quite a bit over the next few days.

Bags dropped and we head out to find food, always the biggest challenge of a new town! I don’t think there’s any chance of us starving, there’s plenty of choice quite close by and we learn the difference between ‘not spicy’ and ‘no chilli’. For some reason, I’m very tired (Bangkok will do that to you!) and we spend some time getting settled into our room and chilling out around the hotel.

Sunsets are interesting here. The sun starts to set and then literally drops from the sky. The many fishing boats out in the haze suddenly become visible when they put their lights on. It’s a very pretty sight.

Tann is taking us out to see some sights tomorrow. 10am start.
